Field Hockey Celebrates 50 Years at West Essex

This season marks 50 years of field hockey at West Essex High School  West Essex started its program in 1967 and was one of the first high schools in NJ to gain this exciting women's sport.  A special thank you to Ms. Linda Alimi and Ms. Phyllis Smith for starting field hockey here and for not just setting the stage as one of the top programs in NJ, but for landing us on the mark nationally as one of the top programs in the country.

There have only been 2 head coaches in school history, Linda Alimi who started the program and stepped down in 1996 from the program leaving a 457-55-44 record (30 seasons) behind her and Jill Cosse who took over in 1997 and has a current record of 413-34-9 in 20 seasons.  Currently the team is #3 in NJ (NJ.com), and #9 in the country (MAX field hockey).

Thank you to all the administrators, parents, athletes and fans for your unwavering support over the years. It is an honor to wear our uniform here and in turn our girls honor the program by representing all the ideals of love, honor and pride that were established back in 1967.
